Senior UX/UI Designer
We are looking for a dedicated UX/UI designer – an expert in securing a seamless and intuitive digital experience for end customer users, across both onboard and offboard experiences – specially in the boating context. Your responsibilities will include various UX/UI activities to drive the development of Volvo Penta digital solutions by ensuring valuable, desirable and intuitive functionality and experience for our end users.
As a UX/UI designer you will work closely with product owners, service owners and development team to understand our business requirements, strategic offer and any technical limitations. You will be responsible for conceiving and conducting user research and insights and translating them into sitemaps, user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and final UI aligned with Volvo Group design principles. Short project description:
In this role you will work closely with multiple cross-functional stakeholders within Volvo Penta to analyze end customer experience in digital services. You will be working with onboard displays for both leisure and commercial boats, offboard digital experiences such as mobile apps and web portals for support related services, such as an AI assistant that helps with maintenance, product care and troubleshooting. You will be responsible for both day to day work to secure UX/UI consistency and value-adding features, as well as understanding user needs and enhancing customer experiences throughout the various parts of the service platforms.
Purpose & objectives:
The purpose of this role is to manage and optimize the end customer experience across all user touchpoints in the ownership journey, in close collaboration with both business owners and design.
Responsibilities and expectations:
- Deliver on and contribute to product and service visions, strategy and roadmaps to realize user- and business value.
- Drive ideas for new products, services, experiences and enhanced features to stay competitive and innovative.
- Pro-actively work with stakeholders across the company to understand and collect customer and business insights.
- Responsible for guiding the direction from an UX perspective based on data, customer insights, technical feasibility and business needs.
- Manage day-to-day work to ensure UX/UI consistency and understand different customer needs.
- Ensure deliveries achieves a seamless customer experience, considering the entire eco system of related touchpoints.
- Secure that work is delivered in accordance with set guidelines and appointed design system.
- Prioritize common solutions to maximize reuse, decrease fragmentation, increase efficiencies and consistency.
- Strong ability to understand and translate technical complexity into visually clear, intuitive designs for users.
Experience and skills:
- Designing customer facing digital experiences, including end-to-end ownership journeys.
- Designing for onboard display experiences, as well as offboard mobile and web products.
- Ability to collaborate closely with development teams and deliver design that support implementation needs, trade-offs, and technical constraints.
- Strong stakeholder collaboration skills, with the ability to align Volvo Penta business needs and user needs into clear experience direction and priorities.
- Working with design principles and brand guidelines in a corporate environment, and delivering consistent UX/UI across products and touchpoints.
- Strong ability to quickly translate complex ideas and concepts into visual sketches, wireframes, prototypes, and presentations to validate with stakeholders and customers.
- Comfortable working at a fast pace to iterate and communicate design solutions clearly and effectively.
- Organizational skills with the ability to plan, prioritize and manage multiple design tasks simultaneously.
- Comfortable working with structured design processes and documenting design decisions clearly.
- Able to balance creative exploration with deadlines and delivery commitments as well as balancing confidence with time and cost.
- Nice to have: experience or strong interest in boating and the marine domain.
Tools and required level of expertise:
- Proficient in Figma design tool and the ability to create high-fidelity mockups and wireframes for desktop and mobile interfaces.
- Strong understanding of UX design principles and demonstrated experience in designing for web and mobile platforms.
- Strong understanding of customer experience analysis, strategic systems thinking, and hands-on service creation, research, and evaluation.
- Ability to design reusable components, icons, and illustrations that can be used across different pages and platforms.
- Familiarity with design systems and the ability to create and maintain a style guide to ensure consistency across designs.
- Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work closely with other designers, developers, etc.
- Familiarity with design accessibility principles and the ability to design interfaces that are inclusive and accessible to all users.
- Good communication skills and the ability to explain and motivate design decisions to stakeholders and clients.
